Finally moved house this week, found some old pedals that I used to hand paint and point to point wire, here’s a shell for the tape one. This is definitely still on the to do list, has a lot of carefully experimented and chosen diode arrangements to mimic magnetic tape overdrive, sounded great

As production of the next 500 begins, number 500 of the first Judders has arrived back - signed and artworked by Declan McKenna who deserves a lot of praise, especially this week. He has said some very nice things in interview about the pedal, owns a few now and we’re huge fans of him, his music and also his producer James Ford (ever since the wisp ep). If you’re living a cave life I recommend British Bombs as a starting point (pedal is on it too).

He says his art styles not evolved since GCSE’s, I’m going with neo primitive and think the lettering addition is great. Am very grateful/lucky and wishing him the best getting over his current illness (suspected 2nd covid, props for heroically being so busy and hope ok) and is hopefully a developing theme of getting musicians to sign them and create a giveaway promo or two…

Expression Remote cases arrived so I made a few up this morning to send out today.

These are simple expression pedals without the treadle/rocker/wah wah part. For attaching to your guitar, strap, mic stand, spare band member and controlling the sample length (pitch).

It’s a simple bit of electronics to keep it low priced and quick to make (see last photo), basically a 10k ohm resistor with a standard TS Jack output (needn’t be a high quality cable) that’ll work to varying degrees with other devices, but is made for the Judder pedal specifically. Different resistances can be made to order if you like, message or email

They turned out not that easy to build last year (a datasheet error caused problems, supplier issues, new parts, circuit boards etc and resultant backorder pain). Ended up building the rotary switches myself, turned out ok, but time..

The latest batch sold out quite quickly last night

The latest batch sold out quite quickly last night but more are already in production.
Here’s a gutsy attempt at a gut shot of the larger judder pedal.
The blue multi-turn trimmers are for tuning the feedback loop and the modulation depth, and 2 regular trimmers for sample length and sample volume. It’s all off board wired with mPPE wire which is thinner (looks tidier for photos like these hopefully) doesn’t melt and stays put without need for cable ties, keeping them separated to minimise noise and crosstalk from clocks and switching.

Over the past few weeks I’ve been filming the making of the Judder pedal, here’s the toggle switches going on after population and soldering of the components.

This is the biggest circuit I do and I’ve nearly done this version of the pedal 500 times - so I’m super excited to get onto the next batch which streamlines the process a bit.

The 40 in this video are mostly back orders but there will be a surplus of a few that are going onto the mwfx website as soon as they’re ready.
